Camping season is coming up and what’s better than relaxing around a bonfire with your favorite music playing off a portable speaker? Having it playing off a waterproof, rugged, outdoor Bluetooth speaker with a 24 hour battery life, that’s what!
VavaVoom have just released an outdoor speaker that is just that – an IPX6 rated device (protects against sand, dust, and splashes of water), with a rubber edging all round and perforated metal plates in front of the speakers with an incredible 5200 mah battery which works with both Bluetooth and 3.5mm jack for the oldies who still use their cassette player.
What’s in the box?
Speaking about the box – they’ve really put a lot of effort in designing the packaging of this product. As soon as you open the box you’re greeted with a thin foam pad with Vava Voom’s slogan written on it, “Life Made Simple”, which protects the contents beneath it. Removing that reveals the portable speaker along with two small boxes which have unmistakable signs on them. One for the manual – a well written one, and another for the cables that come with it – a micro USB and a 3.5mm male-to-male jack.
I’m actually quite impressed! There are five huge buttons that you can locate and press even if it’s pitch dark outside. The embossed shapes on the buttons make it easier to feel which ones you need to press. On one end there is a loop that one can attach a carabiner to for easy transport – just clip it onto your rucksack and walk in style.
The charging port and Aux input are located behind a thick rubber flap which doesn’t flap open easily, so you don’t need to worry about it getting wet by mistake. The front and back metal plates aren’t just glued in place, they are bolted using four allen bolts – one in each corner.
The sound quality is astounding to say the least. I’m not one who settles for grainy sound and luckily enough this provided the exact opposite, sharp and crisp high notes with a good amount of base when needed.
The Vava Voom 23 (official model number) is 7.9 x 3.3 x 2.2 cm and weighs 531g – which isn’t exactly light – but then again it has a 5200 mah Li-Ion battery inside which provides the long playback time.
A well engineered device which competes very well with other, more expensive brands with regards to quality, design and selling price – at just £34.99 it’s a steal.
